SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

The Library Learning Center is committed to providing equitable access in order to insure that all library users can fully and efficiently fulfill their information and research needs.

Services:
The following services are available at the LLC Information Desk:

Assistance retrieving library materials.
Photocopying assistance. A wheelchair-accessible photocopier equipped with a bill changer is located near the Information Desk.
Assistance with keyboarding and/or reading the computer screen.

Facilities:

Power-assisted doors are available at the main LLC entrance.
The LLC’s security gates are ADA compliant for easy access.
All library shelving is configured with ADA compliant aisle space.
Wheelchair-accessible rest rooms are located near the LLC Reference Area and computer labs.
The LLC’s online catalog workstations are wheelchair accessible.

Equipment:

A computer running JAWS screen reading software is located in the LLC Reference Area. The software includes an internal speech synthesizer which utilizes the computer’s sound card to read aloud information appearing on the screen.
An Aladdin Pro Reader CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) for visually impaired readers is also located in the LLC Reference Area. The reader enlarges text, images, and objects and has a number of special features allowing users to focus on a single line or restricted area.
At least one computer desk in every campus computer lab is raised to accommodate wheelchair access. In several labs, the computers on these desks are equipped with special pointing devices and keyboards.
Assistance using the accessibility options included with Microsoft Windows and Office software, as well as Mac OS assistive technologies, is available in the Educational Technology Support Center.
