COLLECTIONS
The Library Learning Center houses more than 150,000 books, periodicals, government documents, audiovisual materials and other resources to support and enhance student learning. Most materials are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system. KWCat,
the library's online catalog, enables users to search for and identify
materials in the library's collections. These collections include:
General Circulating Collection
These books are located in the north stacks area of the LLC.
Reference Collection
Sources of information found in this area include dictionaries, encyclopedias, periodical indexes, atlases, bibliographies and volumes providing biographical information.
Ready Reference
These frequently-consulted reference works are conveniently located near the Information Desk.
NetLibrary Shared Collection eBooks
The LLC provides KWC students, faculty and staff access to over 25,000 ebooks from netLibrary's shared collections.
Periodicals
The LLC provides access to over 16,000 periodical titles in full-text electronic format. (E-Journals) Current magazines and journals received in print format (KWC Periodical Holdings) are arranged alphabetically by title on shelves near the Reference area. Bound back issues are shelved in the south stacks area. Back issues in microfiche and microfilm are contained in cabinets in the Media Room.
Vertical File
Located in the Reference area, this file contains pamphlets, clippings and other brief information material arranged alphabetically by subject.
Audiovisual Materials
The LLC's media collection includes compact discs, DVDs, videotapes, maps, and computer software.
Government Documents
The LLC is a selective depository for U.S. government documents. This collection includes information of technical, statistical and general nature. Many of these publications are in electronic format. Documents in print format are shelved in the southwest corner of the LLC, according to the Superintendent of Documents (SUDOCS) Classification System.
Maps and Posters
These materials are filed in a cabinet near the Vertical File in the Reference area.
Kentucky Collection
Shelved at the end of the general circulating collection, these books include information about Kentucky, official Commonwealth documents, and books written by Kentuckians.
Howard Greenwell Collection
This collection of best-selling fiction and nonfiction is housed in an alcove adjacent to the Reference area.
Dan M. King Collection
This collection contains books about architecture.
Matsumoto Collection
Books about Japanese art, history and culture comprise this collection.
Special Collections
Located in the northwest corner of the LLC, the Heritage Room contains the Library's collections of rare, fragile and unique materials.
Archives
The Kentucky United Methodist Heritage Center includes books, documents and manuscripts relating to the former Louisville Conference and the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church. The Kentucky Wesleyan College Archives includes documents, manuscripts, catalogs, annuals and other materials relevant to the College's history.
