ABOUT THE LLC...
The Library Learning Center (LLC) provides information and library services to meet the educational needs of the KWC community and to prepare students for the process of life-long learning. In addition to maintaining a collection of materials in a variety of formats and providing electronic access to other resources worldwide, the LLC offers a wide range of instructional services and technology support. The LLC's Instructional Technology Support Center helps students and faculty master technology and use it effectively. By developing information literacy and computer competency, the Library Learning Center equips students, faculty and staff to fully participate in today's information-based global economy.
Located in the center of campus and adjacent to the Winchester Center, the LLC houses more than 150,000 books, periodicals, government documents and audiovisual materials for curriculum support and independent learning. KWCat, the library's online catalog, provides access to the library's collections. A classroom, two computer labs and several study areas are located within the Library Learning Center. The LLC maintains several special collections, including the Kentucky United Methodist Heritage Center, a Kentuckiana Collection, the College archives and a collection of unique, rare and fragile books.
Our Mission
The philosophy of the Kentucky Wesleyan College Library Learning Center is to serve as a partner in the educational mission of the College. The purpose of the LLC is to provide information resources and services that support the College’s mission of nourishing, stimulating and preparing future leaders intellectually, spiritually and physically to achieve success in life. The LLC strives to provide quality information services that fulfill the needs of the KWC community and are sufficiently flexible to meet the challenges of educational and technological change.
Our Goals
- To select materials and develop collections that support the College’s curricular programs and independent learning, and that are responsive to student and faculty needs.
- To organize, make readily available for use, and preserve information in all formats required to support the College’s educational mission.
- To provide access to information resources in libraries and databases worldwide, developing and maintaining cooperative relationships for the mutually advantageous sharing of resources.
- To teach the KWC community how to identify, locate, evaluate and effectively use information resources.
- To teach the KWC community how to efficiently and effectively use technology to enhance teaching and learning.
- To provide instructional technology support for College programs.
- To develop and maintain an archival collection of materials relevant to the history of the College.
- To accommodate users in facilities that are conducive to study and work, and to make those facilities available for use at appropriate hours.
- To employ, develop and retain qualified, service-oriented staff.
- To use appropriate management methods to develop, implement and evaluate services and programs, and to insure optimal use of human, physical and financial resources.
