Engineering The Perfect Pizza by Ben Coolbear
Members of Kentucky Wesleyan’s student chapter of KSPE sold Papa John's™ pizzas outside of the Library Learning Center to students for their first yearly fund-raiser. KSPE members worked diligently for two days, selling pizzas by the slice and canned drinks during lunch hours to starving classmates. Papa John's™ Pizza; donated the use of an outdoor gazebo plus serving equipment and pizza slice boxes, and made pizzas at a discounted rate for the student chapter. The money raised in those two days supplemented well the chapters plans for the next academic year, namely paying for Popsicle sticks, wood glue, and cutting tools to build model bridges for the UK Engineering Fair bridge building contest. It was a pleasing way to make the perfect pizza into the perfect fundraiser. Our second fundraiser involved selling raffle tickets to faculty, staff, and students for a multiple prize drawing held late in the fall semester. During our third fundraiser we sold raffle tickets to professional engineers in the local Green River chapter of KSPE for a drawing of two sets of KWC basketball season tickets. Each year the members of the student chapter of KSPE conduct a fundraiser to help supplement the cost of engineering meetings, speakers, and tours.
