Mission
Our departmental programs are designed to provide students with an appreciation of mathematics and physics, and their applications, and to provide students with the ability to utilize them in a career, another discipline or to pursue further studies in professional or graduate school.

Departmental emphasis
As a combined department of mathematics, physics, and pre-engineering we have a strong interdisciplinary emphasis. For example, in mathematics courses we emphasize applications to physics and engineering. We endeavor to relate course offerings in one area to the other areas.

Facilities
We have general physics and advanced physics laboratories,  general chemistry and physical chemistry laboratories, a chemical instrumentation laboratory, computer laboratory, a project workshop, and classrooms located on the second floor of the new Yu Hak Hahn Center for the Sciences. We have a new math computational laboratory and classroom located on the second floor of the administration building.
