About the Department
|
A Major to Meet Your Career Objectives The Chemistry Department at Kentucky Wesleyan College strives to meet the diverse needs of today's science students. The chemistry faculty takes special interest in assisting students as they determine their professional objectives, and each chemistry major, in close consultation with a faculty advisor, devises a program of study appropriate for the student's career goals. To expose students to different career possibilities, the department schedules field trips to industrial and university laboratories, campus visits by specialists in many chemistry-related fields, and special projects related to specific careers. The faculty encourages students to participate in summer research programs at major universities. In recent years KWC students have completed research programs at the Universities of Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Tennessee, and Oak Ridge National Laboratories.

Selecting Courses to Match Your Interests and Goals The academic program followed by a Kentucky Wesleyan chemistry major varies with the student's high school background and career goals. Elective courses are frequently selected in related areas to support the student's professional plans. Pre-professional science students normally take several biology courses, while those interested in graduate work in chemistry generally take additional mathematics and physics courses. Students who intend to enter the chemical industry upon graduation frequently supplement their program with business and economics courses. . |
